Traveling through Lufthansa Airlines would be a hassle-free experience if one knows the list of items that can not be transported both in carry-on baggage as well as in checked baggage.

To have a pleasant travel experience with Lufthansa Airlines one needs to be aware of the restricted items and baggage policy. Go through the following list of items that one is not allowed to carry and are considered dangerous goods.

  • Apple MacBook Pro devices that were sold between 2015 and 2017 are prohibited. This is due to the suspicious battery defects that were observed earlier due to which the company also halted the production of these devices for some time.
  • Containers that might cause dangerous products such as flammable liquids. This also includes lighter fuels, paints, varnish and other cleaning agents
  • Luggage with gas or irritant gas.
  • Self-defense sprays are also prohibited
  • Materials that are caustic such as wet cell batteries, alkalies, electronics with liquid batteries such as that of cars or any other vehicle and all types of acids are prohibited.
  • Anything that is operated on petrol or a similar type of fuel such as diesel is prohibited. Things that contain even the slightest traces of petrol even for testing purposes are not allowed on the flight.
  • Stoves for camping and other cooking equipment such as cylinders, filled scuba tanks, etc are not allowed
  • Fireworks, matchsticks, flares, explosives and related chemically bound items are prohibited
  • Stun guns, teasers or any other electroshock items
  • Toxic substances or poisonous things like mercury, or any other products having tissue culture or viruses or any bacteria stored are strictly prohibited
  • Anything that generates heat such as small refrigerators or batteries is not allowed
  • Liquid oxygen, oxygen cylinders, or oxygen generators are prohibited
  • Things that may catch fire easily such as self-ignition matchsticks or lighters are not allowed
  • Any means of transportation that is operated on battery such as scooters, mini-segways, electric bicycles, hoverboards or Solowheels are not allowed. No matter if the power capacity of the battery is less or more, the restriction still applies.
  • Chemicals or substances that are oxidized easily are prohibited. This includes things like peroxides or bleaching powder. The category also includes flammable gasses emitting substances when contacted with water.
  • Anything that contains lithium batteries or any type of pyrotechnic device is not allowed. Security bags or briefcases containing such items are thoroughly checked and rejected at the time of boarding.
  • Materials that show strong magnetic properties are not allowed
  • Dry ice weighing more than 2.5 kg can be harmful and hence, prohibited on the flight
  • E-cigarettes may be carried but given that they are stowed away and not at all used during the flight. This also includes other vaporing devices. The use of these on board is strictly prohibited
  • Alcohol with more than 70% value and above 5 liters is prohibited on the flight. This net quantity is for a single passenger
  • Gas refills of items such as curling tongs are not allowed. You can carry the tong given that it is well packed and not used during the flight
  • Flammable aerosols are prohibited. These should be protected with release valve caps so that there is no inadvertent escape into the flight atmosphere.
  • Ammunition or firearm weighing more than 5kg are prohibited. A passenger can take firearms below that weight given that it is well-checked before the boarding. Each firearm should be well packed and in an unloaded state residing in a locked container intended only for transportation purposes. Only a single firearm is allowed in one container. Ammunition should be booked separately as per the Lufthansa and IATA standard. The container will be specifically labeled as ‘AMMO’.
  • Mercury barometers are prohibited. These may only be carried by government representatives or by the officials from the weather bureau.
