Overview of Delta airline

Delta is an important American Airline with its operations running in the industry since 1925. It is one of the oldest airlines in the world. The headquarters of Delta is located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Restricted items on Delta Airlines

The Delta restrictions have been regulated mostly by federal law and the safety regulations of the county.

The standard items that are prohibited at all times include:

  • Gunpowder like Pyrodex, black powder, mace and pepper spray, or bear deterrent
  • Bleach, drain cleaners or pesticides
  • Fireworks or explosives
  • Items with refrigerants including refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers or dehumidifiers
  • Meals Ready to Eat (MREs)
  • Torch or blue flame lighters and all lighter refills
  • Fuels (like gasoline or Sterno cans)
  • Paints, stains or lubricant
  • Aerosol products (such as cooking spray or anti-static spray)
  •  “Strike-anywhere” matches
  • Hoverboards, balance gliders, self-balancing boards or motorized riding suitcases that use lithium or lithium-ion batteries

Ammunition

Delta has some light restrictions for firearms carriage. Small ammunition with a weight under 5kgs is allowed.

This applies to one person only. The knowledge and compliance with the Federal or state law should be the responsibility of the passenger. Gunpowder is strictly prohibited.

Batteries or fuel cells

Portable electronic devices with batteries are allowed. Each passenger is allowed to carry only two spare fuel-cell batteries with him.

Any sort of fuel-cell system that contains fuel and cell cartridges or spare cartridges is prohibited in luggage. This is allowed only in carry-on baggage.

Refueling equipment of the cells or batteries is strictly prohibited. No passenger on board is allowed to do this or any related activity.

A duly marked wording should be printed on the fuel carriage. The marking should read ‘ approved for carriage only in the cabin’.

Gasoline-powered devices

Devices like chain saws are allowed given that they are not connected to power devices and are very well-packed.

Lithium batteries or lithium-powered devices such as watches, medical devices, etc are not permitted in luggage.

Alcohol

Alcohol exceeding 140 proof is not permitted in the aircraft. A person can only carry up to 5 liters of alcohol. The proof should be between 48 and 140. The containers of the alcohol must be unopened or in their original retail packaging.

Dry ice

Dry ice is allowed given that the weight is below 2.5 kg. Dry ice is allowed only because it can be used to cool non-hazardous perishables. The conditions apply to both checked and carry-on baggage.

The package in which dry ice is kept should allow the release of CO2. The labels should be properly mentioned along with the specified net weight mentioned on the package.

Personal care items

Various personal medicinal items such as canned oxygen, flavored oxygen or canisters are strictly restricted on the flight.

In the case of butane curling, more than one is prohibited per person in the carry-on baggage. Refills of butane are not allowed at all. Butane curling irons are prohibited for flights to Switzerland.

Items such as cologne or hairspray are allowed given that they are under the TSA rules.

Medical devices such as wheelchairs are allowed but meet the guidelines in the Accessible Travel Services policies. The devices should be first approved by Delta airlines before travel.

Household items and other items

Auto parts or vehicle parts that spill fuel or store fuel are strictly prohibited on the flight. Car engines may be carried only if they are well-checked and are packed in well-managed containers.

Household items that may be harmful are not allowed. This includes aerosols, bleaches, cleaning solvents, pesticides, insecticides, cleaners, etc.

A person can carry only 15 portable electronic devices with him not more than that.

Sporting items

Sporting goods that are dangerous should not be carried. Avalanche rescue pack that contains compressed non-flammable gas is prohibited.

The explosive gas charge called squib to release cylinder fillers are strictly prohibited. Other items include battery-powered self-balancing personal transformation devices, personal flotation devices, firearms, and parachutes. All of these are prohibited.

E-cigarettes and tobacco

Electronic devices such as e-cigarettes, e-pipes, electronic nicotine delivery systems, or e-hookas are not allowed in travel luggage.

However, they can be carried in carry-on baggage. They all should be kept in a safe package so that they are not ignited on their own under any circumstances. Marijuana, despite many regulations by state laws, is strictly prohibited by Delta Airlines.
